A couple of weeks ago, a former British army commander in the military’s war against Islamic State claimed that “the use of Viagra to treat male impotence” is “improved”.
Dr Michael Levenson, who heads the drug industry’s sexual health unit, toldThe Sunthat while he had nothing to say about the matter, he was “unchildly” in his comments.
Levenson also claimed that the treatment has caused “serious, long-lasting sexual side effects” in men suffering from erectile dysfunction, though he acknowledged that the issue has never been solved.
“The use of Viagra to treat male impotence has become a hot topic in the media lately,” Levenson said on a conference call. “And the question remains: is it right to use that treatment to treat erectile dysfunction?”
Levenson had also claimed that a medication used for male erectile dysfunction, called sildenafil, “could be used to treat ED.”
The FDA has approved Viagra for treating erectile dysfunction.
Levenson’s comments came during a conference call with analysts and investors in June.
Levenson has claimed that the drug has caused “severe long-term sexual side effects” in men suffering from erectile dysfunction. He also said that the use of the drug could have caused “serious, long-lasting sexual side effects” in men suffering from impotence.
Levenson has also claimed that the use of sildenafil is “improved” and that it is “not a safe medicine”.
Levenson’s comments are a follow-up to one he said he was unable to reach for in a conference call with analysts and investors.
“I have to say, this is a long-term solution to the problem,” Levenson said. “It is certainly not a safe medicine.”
Levenson has previously denied that he has any knowledge about the drug’s safety.
He has also denied that the use of sildenafil is a known side effect of the drug, though it is believed that its use can be linked to other health problems.
“The only one I can tell you is, if you are a man, you don’t have to be embarrassed or ashamed,” Levenson said.
Levenson has also denied that the use of sildenafil could be linked to the use of Viagra.
“I’m not going to say this is a ‘safe medicine,’ but Viagra is a little bit safe,” he said.
Levenson said he did not know if Viagra would be prescribed to male volunteers who took it, and that the drug was not recommended for use in patients with heart disease.
He said that he was concerned about the potential for a sudden drop in blood pressure when a man taking Viagra started taking the drug and that he was not aware of any adverse effects from it.
“I was concerned about the risk of a sudden drop in blood pressure in some men, and it’s not that important to me,” he said.
He said that the drug was taken in the morning with the evening and that the doctor did not take the medication at night.
He said that while Viagra is effective for erectile dysfunction, it does not protect against sexually transmitted diseases, such as HIV.
Levenson added that Viagra “can cause a serious drop in blood pressure, which could be life threatening.”
He noted that Viagra is used to treat erectile dysfunction, which is a common condition that is not treatable. He said that he was unaware of any connection between the use of Viagra and any sexually transmitted diseases.
“I’m not going to make any kind of rash joke about this,” he said.
